Rachel rose to fame as one seventh of the British band S Club 7. After the band’s split in June of 2003, Rachel signed a 3 Million dollar recording contract with S Club guru Simon Fuller, and was picked up by Polydor Records. She recorded her debut album “Funkydory”, in just under two months, The album spawned singles “Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex” and “Funkydory”, the album was to produce another track “Breathe In, Breathe Out”, but was scraped in favor of new material.
“Some Girls” became Rachel’s third single, and to date her most successful. The single, and the lack of inclusion on her debut album called for a re-release. This saw the recording of what would become the fourth single a cover of a 70′s classic “More More More”. Rachel’s version of “More More More” became the Sky Sports theme for that year, and also became the highest charting version of the song (beating out the 70′s original by Andrea True Connection and Bananarama’s 1993 cover).
Rachel quickly began work on a follow-up album. While recording Rachel appeared in the “Do They Know It’s Christmas” video by Band Aide 20. In March of 2005, Rachel released “Negotiate With Love” which came in at #10 in the UK Charts, this followed by “So Good” which also got to #10 in the charts. In summer of 2005, months before the album was scheduled to be released, a copy of the album was leaked online. After the leak a third single “I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)” (UK #12) was released, and the album “Come And Get It” (UK #26) which was not altered was released a week after!
Rachel took significant time off between 2006-2009, when she was cast as a member of the dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing where she was partnered with Vincent Simone, the couple finished second in the competition and Rachel continued to tour and affiliate with the show up until 2015. Through-out the gap between her album and this competition Rachel began dating childhood sweetheart, Alex Bourne. The two wed shortly after ‘Strictly’ ended and introduced their first daughter into the world.
